More privacy on your balcony with a custom-made balcony blind

Your balcony is your own little outdoor space. A place for your morning coffee, a book in the sun, or a drink on a summer evening. But let's be honest: it's a lot less relaxing when the neighbors, passersby, or the people next door are all watching you. A custom-made balcony blind is a simple solution. You get more privacy, less wind, and your balcony instantly looks much tidier. In this article, you'll find out why custom-made makes a difference, what types of blinds are available, how to measure, and how to hang the blind without drilling a single hole.
Why a custom-made balcony blind?
Of course, you can buy a standard balcony blind and hope it fits. But balconies are rarely standard. One railing might be 3.40 meters, while another curves or has a different height. A blind that is just too short leaves a gap that your neighbor can peer through. A blind that is too long has to be folded or tied up, which can quickly look untidy.
With a custom-made balcony blind, you don't have to worry about that. The blind is made to the dimensions you provide, with rings all around for neat, taut fastening. The benefits at a glance:
- Perfect fit: no gaps, no excess fabric.
- Neat result: a blind that fits the railing well simply looks better.
- More privacy and shelter: less visibility and less wind on your balcony.
- Free shipping: custom-made products are always delivered to your home free of charge.
Plain or printed: which blind is right for you?
At Balkonstore, you can choose between plain balcony blinds and printed balcony blinds. Both are made to measure, but the main difference is the look.
Plain balcony blinds
The custom-made plain balcony blinds are solid-colored throughout. The color is not just on the outside, but in the entire material. You see the same color on both sides: handy, because your balcony is also seen from the street. You can choose from several options:
- Premium matte: calm and stylish, suitable for almost any balcony.
- Premium gloss: a bit more striking, with a subtle shine.
- Matte translucent (water-permeable): lets rainwater through and blocks around 86% of the sun. Ideal if you want light but no harsh sun or visibility.
- Transparent: blocks wind but keeps your view intact. Perfect if you mainly suffer from drafts.
Printed balcony blinds
Want to give your balcony a truly unique atmosphere? Then take a look at the custom-made printed balcony blinds. Think of a green bamboo wall or a natural look, so your balcony instantly feels much cozier. A great example is the balcony blind with a bamboo print. With printed blinds, you can choose between:
- Single-sided print: the print is on one side, the other side is white. Hang the printed side facing inwards and enjoy it yourself.
- Double-sided print: the same print on both sides. Beautiful for you and for anyone looking in from outside.
How to measure your balcony
A custom-made blind is only as good as the measurements you provide. Fortunately, measuring isn't rocket science. Get a tape measure, a pen, and a helping hand if needed, and pay attention to the following:
- Width: measure along the railing, from one end to the other where the blind will go.
- Height: measure from the top of the railing downwards to where you want the blind to end.
- Balcony with a curve? Lay a string along the railing, follow the curve, and then measure the string. This way you get the true length.
- Blind weaving through the slats? The string method works best here too: weave the string where the blind will eventually hang and then measure the string.
- Measure twice: sounds like a cliché, but it prevents a lot of hassle.

Hanging without drilling
Good news for renters and anyone who prefers not to use a drill: you don't need any holes. A custom-made balcony blind has rings all around, approximately every 30 centimeters. Simply thread cable ties through the rings and around the railing, and your privacy screen is ready.
- Start at the top in the corners, so the blind hangs in place.
- Then finish the top edge, followed by the sides and the bottom.
- Pull the cable ties evenly for a neat result without creases.
- Neatly trim the protruding ends. Your neighbors will think you hired a professional.

Delivery time and shipping
Because each blind is made especially for your balcony, it takes a little longer than a ready-made product. Allow for a delivery time of approximately one week. After that, your blind will be sent to you free of charge, because we always ship custom-made products free of charge. Just in time to start the weekend on your balcony, without onlookers.
Finally
With a custom-made balcony blind, you turn your balcony into a place where you can truly relax: more privacy, less wind, and a neat look. Choose your favorite solid color or an atmospheric print, measure carefully, and hang the blind yourself with a handful of cable ties. Still have questions?
